The Publicity Secretary (PS) of St. Paul Church Kyebando works within the church to balance the need to share the church's accomplishments and activities with the public while also ministering to the congregation through in-house publications. The Publicity Secretary usually reports to the Head of Laity. The job can be challenging and stressful, as the PS has to put the church in the best light while sometimes tackling tough issues of faith and morality.
The PS is also responsible for gathering information about the church and its activities and posting them on the Church website. In this way, the PS creates a strong and positive reputation for the church and develops relationships with the public, locally, nationally and internationally. The PS should be creative, coming up with events and news items that the community will care about. For example, a PS might post articles about parenting, how the church is helping a family in need, or about a relief effort, the church is leading.
The PS is also in charge of in-house publications that communicate the church's messages to its members. This can include the assurance that information about events that will happen during the week is projected during the services. The PS oversees the website, create a newsletter or help make brochures about special events. The Secretary's goal is to understand the church and target audience — the main demographic that attends the church — and create publications that are specially geared toward that group.
